An apostille is the certificate, established by the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961, that authenticates the signature and seal on a public document so that it is recognised in another member country — without going through an embassy.

Since the reform that came into force in 2025, apostilles for French public documents are issued by notaries (through regional notarial councils) rather than by the public prosecutors' offices of the Courts of Appeal. The rules, eligible documents and order of steps (translation before or after the apostille) vary by destination country: we check for you and coordinate the whole process.

Frequently asked questions

Does my document need an apostille or a legalisation?

If the destination country is party to the Hague Convention (for example Mauritius, Seychelles, India, South Africa or China since November 2023), you need an apostille. Otherwise consular legalisation is usually required — or sometimes nothing at all under a bilateral agreement. We check the rule that applies to your document and country.

Should the translation be done before or after the apostille?

It depends on the country: some require the apostille on the original and then a translation of both document and apostille, others want the apostille on the sworn translation itself. We organise the steps in the right order.

Can you apostille a foreign document?

An apostille is always issued by the country that issued the document. Through our international network, however, we can have documents apostilled in many issuing countries.
