Certified true copies for use abroad

A certified true copy is a copy that an authorised official attests to be a faithful reproduction of the original. French authorities have not required them since 2001, but many foreign authorities, universities and employers still do.

We arrange certification with a notary or the competent authority, then — if the destination country requires it — the apostille or legalization and the sworn translation, so that your originals stay safe with you.

Frequently asked questions

Can the town hall still certify copies?

For French administrative procedures, certified copies were abolished in 2001 — a plain photocopy is enough. For use abroad, certification may still be required and is usually done by a notary. We point you to the option accepted by the receiving authority.

Does the certified copy need an apostille?

If it is going to a Hague Convention country, an apostille is usually required; otherwise, legalization. We handle the next step straight away.
